Automatic Cross Stitch

My essay on ‘The Modernist Long Poem and Feminist Projects’, is included in the latest issue of Long Poem Magazine, 30. It focuses on my 1995-96 project Automatic Cross Stitch, with artist Irma Irsara. LPM was launched at the Barbican Library on November 18th 2023 As Linda Black, the editor, writes: ‘It is always such a pleasure to hear the poems come alive’. Readers included Simon Maddrell, Graham Mort, Judith Amanthis, Katherine Pierpoint, Simon Collings, Ian Seed, Robert Minhinnick, Andrew Nightingale and Peter Daniels. I enjoyed the high quality of writing and performances. A 1996 VHS video of Automatic Cross Stitch can now be viewed on my website, and although it does not capture the detail of Irsara’s images, it provides a record of one of our performances.
